Useful information for visitors to Switzerland

In July, the average high temperature in Basel is 26°C / 79°F,  and the average low is 14°C / 56°F. The weather is usually sunny with some rainy days. 


The currency in Switzerland is the Swiss Franc (CHF). In many shops Euros (€) are accepted as well, and so are credit cards. However, Swiss Francs are the currency that will be most useful for every day expenses.

In Switzerland the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. Power sockets are different from those in other European countries: Plugs and sockets are of type J, so foreign visitors usually need a power plug adapter, and Americans also need a voltage converter.

The inhabitants of Basel speak German (Swiss German). Most speak English and French as well.
